There aren’t many recipes I like more than classic chocolate chip cookies. I have made many different types in my day but this chocolate chip sugar cookie recipe is such a fun and delicious version.
This is a fairly easy recipe that doesn't require too much effort. These cookies are made with a classic sugar cookie dough with the addition of chocolate chips.
What is the difference between a chocolate chip cookie and a sugar cookie?
The main difference between chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies are the use of brown sugar. Almost all chocolate chip cookie recipes you find use some type of brown sugar to give it that rich molasses taste. A sugar cookie typically just uses granulated sugar to get that crisp color and flavor.
Also, the ratios of ingredients tend to be a little bit different between cookies.
Another thing that make these closer to a traditional sugar cookies is the added step of rolling them in sugar before baking. This gives them a nice sugar coating.
Tips for the Best Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookies
- Use room temperature butter. For best results make sure to use room temperature butter. This helps get the butter and sugar to really cream together well together. Getting those to cream well leads to lighter and fluffier cookies.
- Chill the dough for thicker cookies. If you want to keep the cookies a little thicker, I suggest chilling them in the fridge for about 30 minutes before baking. I have made them both ways and it is not necessary to do this step but it you want a thicker cookie this is a great hack.
- Add in extra chocolate chips. If you really want these to be loaded chocolate chip sugar cookies you can add in some extra chips or place some on top of the cookies before baking. If you use mini chips you can typically get more in there. I typically just use regular chocolate chips, I love using dark chocolate chips.
How to Store These Cookies
Once your cookies have cooled all the way, store them in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for 3-5 days. You could also place them in a freezer bag and store them in the fridge or freezer for a little bit longer. They will start to dry out after awhile so I think it's best to enjoy right away!
Other Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipes
It's hard to say what the best chocolate chip cookies are because there are so many varieties. These are some of my other favorites.
