Oreos are a classic cookie flavor that is loved by everyone. They have a chocolate and cream texture that you can’t resist. Adding this flavor to a chocolate chip cookie just seemed like the perfect recipe. These are the ultimate cookies for all my Oreo lovers out there.
What Type of Oreos To Use?
I would use the traditional flavored Oreos for this recipe. You can use regular Oreos or even the Oreo thins. I actually used the Oreo thins in the pictures above.
I would avoid using double stuffed because you want a good amount of that chocolate in there and too much filling messes with the texture of the dough a bit.
Best Way to Crumble the Oreos
The easiest way to crumble up the Oreos is to place them on a cutting board or plate. Then take the flat bottom end of a cup and push it down on the cookies to break them into pieces. Then you just transfer the Oreo crumbles from the cutting board and slide them into the cookie dough batter.
You could also add them to a food processor or mash them in a bag but I have found the cup method the be the simplest with the easiest cleanup.
Do I need to chill the cookie dough?
No, but you can. You may have seen in other recipes that they chill their cookie dough before baking. This helps keep the cookie a little thicker during the baking process. I didn’t chill these before baking and I think they turned out great.
If you want a thicker cookie, I would roll them into balls and then place them in the fridge for about 30 minutes before adding them to the oven.
How to Store Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies
Once your cookies are baked and cooled place them in an airtight container. You can store them at room temperature for 3-5 days. The longer they sit the harder they will get so I try to enjoy them in the first couple of days if you can.
Tips for Making the Best Oreo Cookies
- Top your cookies with extra Oreo pieces. To get that cookie crumb topping use a few extra cookies to break apart and push on top.
- Add in white chocolate chips. If you want to make these extra decadent add in some white chocolate chips too. This gives it a more cookies and cream flavor.
- Use room temperature ingredients. You have probably heard this one before but using room temperature ingredients helps easily mix everything together. Having everything at the same temperature makes for a smoother, more homogenous dough. This results in those soft chewy cookies we are all hoping for.
