There isn’t anything much better than an egg and cheese croissant breakfast sandwich. Breakfast sandwiches are one of my favorite meals for a delicious breakfast! I have made my fair share of them so when I say this one is my all time favorite, I mean it.
Croissant Breakfast Sandwich Ingredients
This is a very easy recipe with simple ingredients. A buttery croissant with fluffy eggs and melty cheese is all you need to make this croissant breakfast sandwich. The other additions make it that much better.
- Egg: I use 3 large eggs for this recipe but feel free to do 4 if you want extra eggs or if you have extra large croissants
- Cheese: Sharp cheddar cheese is my favorite cheese for this sandwich. You could also use American cheese, fontina, Swiss cheese or pepper jack. Really anything that will melt nicely. i like to use shredded cheese instead of slices because it melts quicker.
- Croissant: Try to find some nice flaky croissants. If you can get them from a local bakery that is great. They tend to be a little bigger than the one I can find at the grocery store, but what ever you can find will work.
- Avocado: I use 1 large avocado. 1/2 on each sandwich.
- Tomatoes: You can use any type of tomato you’d like. I use a beefsteak tomato but roma or cherry tomatoes would work as well. Just slice them to your preference.
- Microgreens: Adding a little bit of greens to a breakfast sandwich keeps to balance out all the richness in the croissant and cheese. I like to use microgreens but if you don’t have them you can use any type of lettuce or arugula.
There are so many other things you could add to this sandwich but these are just my favorites. You can even top it with sausage patties or a vegan sausage.
If you want something a little different, try this spinach and feta puff pastry breakfast sandwich. And if you want something more classic, this everything bagel breakfast sandwich it great!
What to Serve with a Croissant Breakfast Sandwich
Since croissants are fairly rich in flavor, I like to serve this with something lighter like a fruit salad or a small side salad. Even a bowl or fresh tomatoes and cucumbers is great. I just love it with something bright and fresh that can break up the richness in the sandwich.
Tips for Making the Best Breakfast Sandwich
- Use fresh croissants: The fresher the better. They are so soft and flaky when they are fresh from the bakery, it makes such a difference in the sandwich.
- Scramble the eggs: If you really like a fried egg you can do that here, but I have found that scrambled works the best and you get a little bit in every bite.
- Toast your croissant: Before adding the filling I like to add the cut sides of the croissant to a hot pan to toast slightly. No need to butter the croissant since there is already so much butter in the pastry.
I hope you enjoy this egg and cheese croissant breakfast sandwich for the perfect start to your day! Let me know if you give it a try. Find some of my other favorite vegetarian breakfast sandwiches.
