These are the best whole wheat chocolate chips cookies. Actually, they are the best chocolate chip cookies period. They have walnuts and chunks of dark chocolate to make them extra delicious.
This recipe is based off of the one from the Cherry Bombe cookbook. They were so amazing I couldn’t stop making them. After baking so many batches over the last few years, I have made a few tweaks that worked better for me.
These cookies can easily be made vegan. I actually make the vegan version more often and find them more delicious. I probably make these cookies every other week. I tell myself if they have whole wheat flour, walnuts, and dark chocolate, they must be healthy, right?
For the dark chocolate, feel free to use whatever kind you like best. I sometimes use chocolate chips and other times use chopped up chocolate. You can even do a mix. I love having the variety of sizes in the chocolate chunks.
This is a smaller recipe and only makes 12 cookies. This recipe can easily be doubled to make 24 if needed.
The secret to making the best chocolate chip cookies: Take them out early. Your cookies will continue to cook as they sit and you don’t want them to be overdone. Trust me, take them out when they still look a little underdone in the center and they will be perfect by the time they cool.
